For the 2011 season the Autosport Young Guns Championship has been renamed as the RAC MSA Intersteps Championship with backing from the Racing Steps Foundation.

The one-make national championship - aimed at 15 to 19 year-old drivers - has been conceived to provide an affordable route from karts to cars. It uses the BMW-powered Mygale FB02 wings-and-slicks single seater, designed and built for the former Formula BMW.

The series - part of the the 2011 British Automobile Racing Club's televised 'Dunlop package' comprises of six official test days, seven pre-race tests, and the option of a further six additional joker tests for the 20 round championship held over seven meetings.

The educational meetings cover topics such as safety, technical and sporting regulations, fitness and race craft. Drivers also receive mentoring from motorsport specialists and senior RSF-backed drivers. In addition to these services provided by the championship, Falcon Motorsport uniquely has a driver coach, Craig Dolby, who is on hand to provide dedicated one-to-one mentoring. The educational package is provided as part and parcel of the RSF-funded Motor Sports Association young driver support programme.

The championship has also been designed to complement drivers' day-to-day learning. Its calendar and race weekend programme dovetail with school and higher education timetables and exam schedules to ensure the academic development of competitors is not compromised.
